What do you get when you mix a killer BMX weekend with buckets of rain, thick mud, fierce competition, and a whole lot of heart? One unforgettable time at Westmoreland BMX—and VTR was there for all of it!

Saturday: Gold Cup Qualifier—A Wet Start, A Wild Ride

The weekend kicked off with promise, puddles, and pure anticipation. Saturday morning greeted us with a slight delay as the track crew hustled hard to dry things out from the relentless downpours leading up to the event. But credit where credit's due—the Westmoreland team worked magic on that track, and we were finally rolling with practice and racing not far behind.

With 74 motos on the Gold Cup roster, the energy was electric. Riders from all over—Ohio, New York, West Virginia, even Massachusetts—came to throw down. The level of talent on the track was unreal, and the vibe off-track? Even better.

The trackside food was top-notch, and the Chinese basket auction had people buzzing with excitement. Shoutout to the awesome BMX vendors in attendance: On2Wheels, Identify BMX, Creekside Graphics, and Hellfire BMX. Speaking of Hellfire, here's a feel-good moment for your day: our own Vanessa lost a pair of earrings she had purchased from them at a previous race. When she went to buy a new pair at Westmoreland, the vendor actually gifted her a free replacement. Pure class. Go give them some love on Facebook and Etsy!

Under the bright new VTR banner, Matt and Vanessa held it down in the pits and on the track. Both racers put up a strong fight in seriously stacked classes. Vanessa raced in the 46–50 Women Cruiser and finished 4th. Matt lined up with the 51–55 Experts and also clinched 4th. It was an excellent start for the weekend opener!

Sunday: State Qualifier—Downpour & Determination

Let’s be real—Sunday was chaos, but the kind that makes BMX unforgettable.

With heavy rain looming, the event team moved up registration and practice in hopes of beating the storm. Volunteers reportedly worked through the night to keep the track raceable. That’s some dedication!

But as luck would have it, the rain showed up right as practice ended. With conditions quickly deteriorating, the tough decision was made to run the State Qualifier as a one-moto shootout. For many, that meant one chance to give it their all—winner takes all.

Despite the mud—and we’re talking serious mud—riders pushed through with grit, smiles, and a few face plants along the way.

This time, VTR’s Brittney joined the crew and rocked it! She took a solid 3rd place finish, and Vanessa matched her with a 3rd of her own in slippery conditions. As for Matt—well, let’s just say he had a moment. In the last moto of the day, after a great start, the rider in front of him slid out on the third straight, taking Matt down in the process. But did that stop him? Nope. Matt took it like a champ, made a mud angel, and still finished the race—earning 6th and a memory no one will forget.

Shoutouts & Snaps

Massive thanks to Aaron Puttcamp Photography for capturing the wild, wet, and wonderful moments from both days. Westmoreland BMX went above and beyond by purchasing the photos so everyone could enjoy them—how awesome is that?

Final Thoughts

This weekend wasn’t just about wins or podiums. It was about community, heart, and having a blast even when the skies open up and the track turns to soup. Westmoreland BMX, you did an incredible job pulling off a double-header weekend in tough conditions.

Team VTR showed up, rode hard, and left muddy. Just how we like it.

Can’t wait for the next one!
